Founder Bak Kut Teh

27 Mar

The best food one could have for a cold and rainy day – a piping hot bowl of Bak Kut Teh!

I realized it’s so good to stay in the east, because most of the good food is located in the east!

<3 is always the one who brings me around for good food in the east, while seriously, there’s nothing in the west i can bring <3 for a feast. LOL!

<3 has been telling me about this famous Bak Kut Teh restaurant which even Jay Chou visits when he is in Singapore and finally, i get a taste of it!

Before you stepped in, you would have seen the walls of the restaurant plastered with celebrities photo with the owner.

The soup was extraordinary peppery which makes it spicy hot, those who like pepper would definitely love the soup.
The meat was a tad hard thou, which i don’t really favor, i’ve eaten much tender and nicer meats!

If i would to go back again, it would just be the peppery soup and nothing more.

If you do not know, one of the MediaCorp artiste which i admire most is Pornsak!

I like the way he host as he always seems so bright and bubbly. Most importantly, i admire him for his hardwork and humble attitude, and of course the good looking guy scores a little brownie point ;P . Although he is a Thai Chinese, he did not know English and Chinese when he first came to Singapore. I bet he must have put in alot of effort to come to this day.

Although he’s holding a job with MediaCorp, but he did not stop challenging himself, he even opened a Thai restaurant himself and heard that he has plans to open more outlets! *thumbs up*

I think i really like guys who are constantly self improving, it’s really charming!

Knowing that i love Pornsak so much, <3 decided to bring me to the Bugis outlet!

Sometimes when i walked pass, i saw him working at the cashier station!

We ordered a few authentic thai dishes

Crispy Rice Crackers

Prawn Cake and Stir Fried Pork

and not forgetting Tom Yum Soup!
The soup caught me by surprise as it was presented in a “steamboat” style and they are very generous with the amount of seafood!

Notice a 7% GST waive!

Great Job Pornsak! Jia You!

Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh

4 Mar

My bro was enlisted into Army on 4th March and only able to book out 2 weeks later, exactly on his birthday 18th March.
I’ve been looking forward for my bro to get into NS because he would be forced to stop playing his computer games all night long and hopefully become more mature and sensible -_-

After sending my bro in for enlist, my dad and i went Chinatown for Yum Cha before heading for a walk at the newly opened Nex shopping center.
While searching for food to dabao back home for dinner, we chance upon this newly opened restaurant – Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh. Their opening seems grand as there’s lot of congratulatory florals displayed outside the restaurant, which i guess the owner must be of certain status.

My dad and i decided to check out the new place for our pack away dinner. The strange thing is, before you stepped in, the restaurant display photos of the dishes but not the price!

By the time we saw the exorbitant prices on the menu, we were already in the restaurant, it would be embarrassing if we would want to leave. Never mind about that we thought maybe the food is really nice and portion would be big, so should be worth the price? So we tried to order 3 different kinds of meat and to my amaze, they doesn’t serve salted veg? hmm

While waiting for our packed food, which was ridiculously long, we surveyed other table’s dishes, my dad and i were stunned by the small portion of meat served and we were praying that our packed food would be of a bigger portion which would at least justify the price. Our packed food finally came and a sigh of relief as the containers were at least larger than the portion of food served. I made my payment at the counter while my dad took the packed food.

While on the way out, my dad told me that the packed food seems very light and true enough, it seems like just the weight of the container and rice.
To our horror when we opened the container at home….

The meat was like only 1/4 of the container!!

We totally felt cheated! As you can see, the portion does not even cover 1/2 of the spoon!

This is seriously the first time i ever felt so angry over an unjustified meal. Although we ordered 3 portion + rice, but as compared to what outside stall sells, it’s only for 1 person portion even with the RICE can!! The rice is also ridiculously so small in portion and 1 packet cost $1.20!!

In the end, i headed out with <3 for dinner while my parents ate the bak kut teh which they said it’s not even nice! OMG!

Seriously, if you are considering having a hearty bak kut teh meal, please do not visit

it’s daylight robbery! My worse encounter of a restaurant so far, please do not patronize unless you are not hungry and have some spare cash to spend.

Valentines’ Day Dinner @ Shangri-la, The Line

14 Feb

The day started off with a morning surprise of a bouquet of flowers sent to my office despite my *NO FLOWERS* warnings.
I’m not a flower-fan nor do i know how to admire them, when i receive flowers, i simply take a look and chuck it off beside me and when i reached home, i’ll just put it in the fridge.

I’m quite a practical person, so i would prefer something more practical which i’m able to use or wear it everyday.
PS: i don’t mind money notes folded into flowers thou

Our 2nd year celebration for Valentine’s day and both occasions are met with obstacles.

Last year coincides with Chinese New Year, so we have to pre-celebrate it while this year, he is on reservist!!
Luckily, he’s able to book out for in the evening before rushing back to camp at 23:59.

Being a self-proclaimed romantic guy, he had everything planned beforehand.

A table reserved at Shangri-la’s The Line buffet where we can eat our hearts out.

The whole restaurant was romantically set-up with rose petals sprinkled on the floors and each table was given a complimentary stalk of rose!

Even the desserts are specially decorated with heart shapes!

What i remembered was i kept eating the Alaskan crab leg which was super thick, cold and SALTY! I like! Now i’m craving it as i type.

Oh! and the valentine buffet price (steeper than usual) includes unlimited flow of champagne!

Me with my bouquet of flowers

The damage on his pocket and yes, he drank Tiger beer again! =_=

And by the way, if you think the story ends nicely here, IT DOESN’T!!

While we were enjoying the buffet half way, my colleague called and said she doesn’t have the key to lock the office and i realized i’m the one who took the key the previous night and forgot to put it back!

So in the end, due to my carelessness, i had to rush back office after the dinner to lock the freaking office door!
<3 accompanied me before rushing back to his camp and both of us were so sad that we are unable to spend the night longer together =(

Nevertheless, i had a nice valentine's day celebration with <3, hopefully next year nothing goes in our way!!

Happy Valentines' Day everyone! Cheers!

CNY with colleagues

11 Feb

The usual clique decided to head down Chinatown’s Mouth Restaurant for CNY celebration dinner after work.

of course lou hei is the main dish we’re coming for for CNY

pok pok, everyone’s favourite

zhu ma with ah net!

this is damn funny, Keline is more attracted to the food than Kok!

Our company too had our annual CNY celebration, this time round at Mount Faber Safra, we booked one of the function room.

as usual, team building games

we were given red papers to form the characters 大吉大利 without scissors; winning team with the nicest formed characters

We also had a bingo game
Next, we were given raw materials: raddish, carrots, cucumber to form our creative dish of yu sheng.

this has gotta be the most disgusting yu sheng i ever saw. the jucies coming out from the ingredients when we grated them; basically we just dump everything we have grated into the dish and then we try to figure out how to decorate it.

our team’s creation. total failure. LOL

Other team’s yu sheng looks much more edible and presentable.

They even form a rabbit shape since it’s a rabbit year!

Although our yu sheng was a disaster, but our team managed to get a 2nd place, i think we won in the dressing portion where Pink clothes have more points than Reds, strangely.

Oh and if you read my post on the recent Company’s Dinner and Dance at Red Dot Brew House, the two red guys behind me are Ayumi and Maggie respectively. LOL!
